Images

I've organized my image galleries according to the methods used to make the images. Use the buttons below to visit the corresponding galleries.

Vector Graphics

The Vector Graphics section contains images created using the Adobe Photoshop (and Illustrator) "pen tool." My method usually has me start from one of my pencil sketches or a photo. I scan it into the computer and use the pen tool to trace it with perfect, mathematical curves called vectors or splines. I generally then use Photoshop's styles and blending options to color and decorate it. Images made from vectors can be re-sized up to any dimension without losing image quality, and therefore come in very handy for print illustration.

Raster Graphics

The Raster Graphics section comprises what one might consider more traditional computer art. The images here are made from plain and simple pixels. Like my vectors, much of what I have here was once born of a pencil sketch that was scanned into the computer. I then used Photoshop's airbrush and other tools to paint the image into its final state. There are also a number of images here that began life as photographs, then had a little Photoshop magic applied to them.

These images don't resize well (as the bigger they get, the more obvious it becomes that they are made of thousands of little squares), but on the other hand, some nuances can't be recreated with straight vectors.

Sketches

Here you will find scans of my pencil and pen drawings, some of which later became some of the images found in the Vector and Raster sections. I'm afraid I'm not terribly disciplined about my doodling...many of my sketches are on napkins, newsletteres, or whatever else I could get my hands on that would take an imprint from a pencil.

Photographic Retouches

I intend eventually to put up a gallery of photos I have retouched. My experience here is rather limited: I've only cleaned up photographs for one company: MightyWorld.com. The images were shot on a macro lens, and featured MightyWorld's new line of toys for the 2007 Holiday Season. My job was to cut the toys out of their backgrounds and then erase away any imperfections in the paint or plastic of the toys. Since the toys are only a few inches tall, but were shot at very high resolution to be blown up and used for packaging and advertisement, there was a lot of cleaning up to be done. I don't currenly have any of the images to post here. I intend to put up before and after shots. For now I can only provide this paragraph as a promise of things to come.
